My Next of Skin

My Next of Skin

A Poem by Emilie
"

This text is inspired by the beautiful film "For Lovers Only" ( and was set to music by a friend a mine. I can't share the audio file, though. Sorry!

"
May the road drive us to a shelter of silk,
some place where we won’t feel
the urge to quit
with every kiss;
where the taste of our lips
will never melt with guilt;
a bridge of bliss, maybe,
but something real.
There’s no point resisting
a sin that’s never been
anything else but this:
love and love only.
I mean, you’re my next of skin.

I so much need your pulse beating under my palm,
like seconds of our own,
that time won’t steal from us
before we lose it all.
We live under the gun
of ending up alone,
afraid to stop the curse
that eats us to the bones.
There’s no point resisting
a path that’s never been
anything else but this:
love and love only.
I mean, you’re my next of skin.

Please take off your glasses, for the world we live in
is more than black and white.
We’ll keep catching the light,
I’d rather be drowning
than leave us in the dark.
Now lean against my back,
the clouds are passing by;
we’ll be alright.
There’s no point resisting
a call that’s never been
anything else but this:
love and love only.
I mean, you’re my next of skin.

Whatever the ending
the dream has never been
anything else but this:
love and love only.

And a chocolate kiss.
