Unroll the Dice

Unroll the Dice

A Poem by Emilie

Oh, if I could unroll the dice,
erase the price you had to pay
for all the bad mistakes I made
and the people I hurt;
if I could just clean off the dirt,
untell the lies, soften the blade,
and say what I’m supposed to say,
I wouldn’t blow it twice.

I’m sorry for the days I told you I’d be there
no matter what,
all those things I failed at,
your hand I didn’t hold, the time I didn’t spare.
I’m sorry for the nights I gave you a blind stare
and let the silence
make no sense.

Nothing’s gonna replace the love I didn’t share,
the broken glass,
the vows that didn’t last,
the pain that you endured everyday, everywhere.
I’m sorry for the times you thought I didn’t care
when I cared nonetheless.
I’m sorry for the mess.

Oh, if I could unroll the dice,
erase the price you had to pay
for all the bad mistakes I made
and the people I hurt;
if I could just clean off the dirt,
untell the lies, soften the blade,
and say what I’m supposed to say,
I wouldn’t blow it twice.

This poem sounded and looked much like lyrical to me. The lines keep resonating in their own and the message it conveys really flows from the readers lips right straight to the heart creating a scene of despair for chances not taken and regrets only too late.

You could really feel the regret in these lines, and the fluency was so well established. Beautiful pieces.

This poem has such a great impact on the reader. I've always known that rolling the dice could mean taking a chance, but I've never considered it the other way around. Unroll the Dice is a captivating title on it's own- to be honest, the only reason I clicked on it- but the rest of the poem doesn't disappoint. From the title to the final, repeated stanza the poem carries great weight and meaning, and one can make no mistake that there was plenty of emotion behind it.

Beautifully written. Sad, sorrowful words.
