We Cannot Happily Coexist: She and I — A Choice Must be Made: Her or Me.

We Cannot Happily Coexist: She and I — A Choice Must be Made: Her or Me.

A Poem by Emilia Svjeda
"

I am the one who does not exist.

"

“And if we held hands one more time?”

“Then we’d be breaking our deal.”

“And if we broke our deal.”
“We both know that we’d be unhappy soon after we parted again.”

“But we’d be happy while we held hands… wouldn’t we?”

“…”

“Then why?”

“I’ll hurt you someday, I’m sure. Better to get it over with now.”

“And you’ll die someday. Is it best to get life over with now?”

“That’s not even close to the same thing.”

“Isn’t it?”

“I don’t want to hurt you.”

“But you’re hurting me now. Hold my hand, won’t you?”

“...”

“Please?”

“Holding your hand now will only make your pain later greater.”

“But it’ll make me happier now.”

“Don’t you care what happens to you?”

“I only care what happens to me now.”

“Why are you so insistent?”

“Screw the future. The future is like forever away.”

“The future is literally less than a second away.”

“The future is always a second away forever. We never really reach the future”

“Then our actions will catch up with us.”

“And I’ll welcome those consequences.”

“You’re foolish.”

“And you’re humble, handsome, and thoughtful.”

“Emilia, we can’t hold hands.”

“Then, what about this… smooch.”

“That feels like a loophole.”

“I bet you liked that loophole.”

“I did, but…”

“No ‘but.’ You liked it.”

“Yes, but…”

“Won’t you give in already?”

“I’m not sure I’ll ever give in.”

“But you’d be so much happier.”

“Maybe so…”

“Maybe so… what more?”

“I don’t know.”

“So now you’re just opposition obstinate. Not even gonna crack a counter argument?”

“No.”

“Then suffer in hell.”

“We shall suffer hell together, but separately and alone.”
