Only Sunshine

Only Sunshine

A Poem by Emilia Svjeda
"

A heartbreaking song sang from father to daughter.

"

You are my sunshine…

The lyrics lingered in the busy room,

Only sunshine.

But it was only she and I.

You make me happy…

I couldn’t accept that after this song…

Every day.

It’d only be I.

You’ll never know dear…

Tears welled, and words cracked.

How much I love you.

Yet she smiled, “You’ll be okay, Dad.”

So please…

My words were futile.

Don’t take her away.

This one is based on a familiar old love song, but the setting appears to be the deathbed of a daughter, the singer being her father. The last words come across as a prayer, but the hoped for answer does not come. Life is like that sometimes. A very moving piece.
