Love Is Blood

Love Is Blood

A Poem by Alyssa

He introduces his fist to my face...
an attempt to put me back into my place.
Red. Red is all I see.
Red is poured all over me.
I refuse to beg
but I do wallow,
for another gulp of blood I swallow.

Chatty words from those who see,
but they cannot relate to me.
"If you stay, the misery won't end"
But misery is my best friend.
I know no other way than this
but ignorance,
ignorance is bliss.

I show them what they want to see,
not the welts all over me.
Not the cuts,
not the bruises
I can always make excuses...
An accident;
I tripped, I fell.
Blind to the fact
that my life is hell.

Do this, do that,
follow his command.
If I resist,
I'll meet his hand
to my face
a "disgrace",
"worthless", "useless",
"waste of space".
His words are thrown right into me,
they melt into my skin.
These words, they never go away;
forever embedded within.
"I can hate you, but you can't hate me...
this is what love is supposed to be."

I force my busted lip to smile,
maybe I can pretend for awhile...

Entrapment....... Well expressed.

Deep writing. Makes me sad to know this is something that will never end. I grew up watching this happen. Powerful piece.
