My Heart Weights in Your Pocket

My Heart Weights in Your Pocket

A Poem by EmeraldCity
"

This is a poem I wrote when I was feeling bad because I had been in an 8 year relationship with someone who didn't seem to ever want to get married. I started to feel like my heart was heavy.

"
You have my heart now
You carry it in your pocket
With your car keys and your pennies
and your business cards
You feel the weight of it
My heavy heart
As you drag yourself along
Slowly trudging, uphill
My heart weights (waits)
In your pocket
With your pens and your bus pass
and your chewing gum
It could be so easy for you
to simply pull it out and drop it
to leave behind this heavy burden
but you don't
you keep it with you
in your pocket
with your phone and your change
and that half-eaten protein bar
slowly making your way
step by step
to our future

Great poem...imagery strong. Not sure if he's carrying your heart with the intention of staying or leaving though...maybe that's the point?

No-one should ever begin to feel as insignificant as a bus pass in someone's pocket. You are magnificent and so much more! I like the current feel to the poem made by your choice of words.
