Yesterday//TodayA Poem by EmaleighLynnAnther poem from English class.Yesterday stank of heartbreak, The stench of pain hanging heavy in the air. The echoes of it ring in my veins even now, Though today is new day, A sky-blue new day. yesterday was red and black and orange, Gothic flames wreathing a bouquet of dead roses. The image lingers in my head, Though today is bright skies And puffy clouds. Yesterday felt like death, The dark chalk of it rubbing against me like sandpaper. I rub my arm now, Trying to replace it with today’s Silky softness. Yesterday was screaming arguments, Ringing in my ears. The sound comes back, Despite today’s pleasant chime, A music box on the desk. Yesterday was bitter, The taste that you spit out and rub your tongue after. I would rather drink in The smooth chocolate-vanilla that today brings, A welcome change from yesterday.© 2015 EmaleighLynn |
