I WISH I WAS SOMEONE BETTER

Allan leaped into the back of the convertible, a slinging a duffle bag into the empty front passenger’s seat. “Drive!” he shouted at Lex, and she gunned the engine. They whizzed down the highway, breaking the speed limit, but who cared? This was the time to be free, to embrace the feeling of power. Lex let out a shriek as the car tore down the road.

“How much did you get?” she asked.

Allan leaned forward, “Twenty thousand,” he told her, grinning. Lex whooped, and swerved into the next lane. They were over a bridge now, and she pulled into the lane closest to the water. “Twenty thousand...” she breathed. Letting go of the wheel, she turned to look at Allan. “We can do whatever we want!” she shouted.

Allan’s eyes widened. “Lex, the road!”

Screeeeeech. CRASH.

On the bridge, drivers pulled over in shock as the little yellow convertible went over the edge, the screams of its occupants echoing off the banks of the river.
