A Kiss in the RainA Story by I Am SvetlanaTo have the perfect kiss, be held by that special someone and feel a soft, evening mist around you. I had always desired to be kissed in the rain. I was in Mr. Hart’s class for 4th grade. He was s pretty laid back guy and while he taught the lesson, he would sneak in certain answers to our homework. My grades were pretty decent. I was the 2nd smartest in the class, behind a boy named Connor. He was thin, sandy-colored hair in a crew cut and always raised his hand for any question asked. Even if he did not know the answer, Mr. Hurt would always allow him enough time to contemplate one. The smartest boy in our class and I desired to kiss him in the rain. Later on after school got out, I was walking home while kicking dirt piles that were along the sidewalk. I heard a shuffling sound behind me, nearly making my skin crawl. I quickly turned around--low and behold, it was Connor! The very boy I wanted to kiss in the rain. “Didn’t catch the bus?” He asked me as he began to match my strides when I walked. “Oh, no. My house is only a few blocks,” I replied with a shy smile. Was he walking me home? I wondered, simply because normally he took the bus home, even though his house was also in my direction. The hair on my arm suddenly began to prickle with anticipation. “Connor, I want to ask you something.” I muttered as a slight breeze set in, blowing my hair around my shoulders. “Have you ever been kissed in the rain? I mean like, kissed a girl in the rain.” This made him stop in his tracks. I couldn’t help but push myself to ask the exact question I didn’t want to. I didn't want to wonder anymore. “No, I haven’t. What makes you so curious?” I had to admit, his response made me nervous. “Would you ever kiss me in the rain?” My heart began to race as my breath got stuck in my throat. I suddenly felt ashamed, disappointed for what I had just asked. I had no desire to confess this secret to anyone, yet I happened to blurt it out to Connor. Awhile later, we arrived at my house. I could hardly believe he just walked me home! I heard thunder roll nearby, then I felt them; the precious, yet delicate raindrops. Dropping from the cloudy sky. Why was he still standing here? Just then, as if in slow motion, it happened: he leaned his face toward mine, just enough so our lips touched together. As he pulled away, he smiled as he dug his hands into his pockets. “Happy Birthday,” he said as he made his way back down the sidewalk. I could hardly believe it! I finally got my kiss in the rain...from Connor, the smartest boy in class.
