Burger Food

Burger Food

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

"Dinner's ready!" mom calls.

Upon entering the kitchen, the smell

Hits me. Burgers tonight.

My stomach begins turning somersaults.

I wasn't hungry for anything.

On the table sat: a bowl of lettuce,

A ketchup bottle, along with mayo,

Burger buns and their freshly-made patties.

As empty as my stomach was,

I wasn't hungry for anything.

Glancing around, I see everyone

Biting deep into their

Burgers. The way other people ate, it

Made my stomach queasy. It reminded me:

I wasn't hungry for anything.

Dinner finally over.

I munched on a crunchy piece of

Lettuce, then a thin slice of cheese.

But my stomach kept telling me that

I wasn't hungry for anything.
