The Child Abuse That Is LegalA Poem by Elton CampIt happens all the time and goes unpunished. The Child Abuse That Is Legal By Elton Camp If, to feed a kid, a parent should fail There’s a good chance of going to jail Or if a child is being savagely hit The parent may be declared unfit Fail to send a youngster to school And a heavy fine will be the rule Allow a child to go dirty & ill-clad In the eyes of the law that’s very bad Likewise, if a parent often lies drunk The right to custody may well be sunk If a child’s not strapped in a kiddie seat Punishment by the law one could meet But a thing equally bad to all of these Is to cause a child to gasp & sneeze Keep him in a place filled with smoke So that he will have to cough and choke © 2012 Elton Camp |
