To See Ourselves as Others See UsA Poem by Elton CampWe might not like what we'd learn. To See Ourselves As Others See Us By Elton Camp What we’re like we may think we know Others very well might not agree, though For in my mirror I see a kindly old goat But others a different conclusion may note Then there’s Sue who thinks she’s a looker Perhaps others say, “Hey, there goes a hooker.” Teenage Bob considers himself a laid-back dude While others may find him foul-mouthed & rude The candidate thinks that he is sure to be elected The public may have his grievous faults detected The country singer is certain that her voice is grand But to the cultured ear, it may be too hard to stand The professor may believe that his lectures are clear But students may warn others never to come near The waitress seems to believe that her service is great The customers, to sit at her tables, may intensely hate If others’ views we could somehow come to see From many a foolish conceit it might set us free
