Digging the Hole Deeper

By Elton Camp

If you’ve dug yourself into debt too big

For sure, the hole don’t continue to dig

Credit was easy so folks overextended

Then suddenly, all that become upended

Financial affairs got into a terrible mess

Our sins we must now leave and confess

Working there is just about the only way

That we should see the inside of a café

And it is tap water that we need to drink

About an overpriced latte don’t even think

Give up that costly golf club membership

Stay at a budget inn when you’re on a trip

When it’s a car that you just have to buy

That newest luxury model don’t even try

Make your smaller, present house to do

Not some McMansion that you will rue

Tickets for a concert or the football game

Don’t even consider something that lame

Use the nearby state college for your child

Not some place where the costs are wild

Your outgo cannot exceed your income

To act otherwise is irresponsible & dumb
