Should the Captain Go Down With the Ship?

By Elton Camp

The captain is responsible for all aboard

One who proves to be a coward is abhorred

Like on the Titanic, the captain did his most

To the end, remained faithfully at his post

To save passengers and crew, did all he could

Saw his duty & courageously did as he should

Not to die alone with his ship, all did believe

But that the captain should be last to leave

Recently, when a liner would no longer float

Its captain was the first to flee from the boat

“I will see to things from the lifeboat here,”

Is what he cried out with the greatest fear

“It’s dark and scary and I am much afraid,

Please leave me alone,” the captain prayed

With the orders to return he wouldn’t comply

Certainly, it wasn’t he who was going to die

“It’s every man for himself, and women too.

The ship’s listing and I don’t know what to do.”

When all are safe, the captain should leave too

But not before his responsibility is through

Nice one . I have to laugh because it could be very topical at the present time, with the Italian ship that has recently gone aground. I shan't say more, lets await the results of the enquiry. Hopefully the Captain carried out all his responsibilities.
