His Only FriendA Poem by Elton CampAn unloved and unwanted child. His Only Friend By Elton Camp That things aren’t all right, Tim is aware And finds lack of love very hard to bear He hears his parents say he was unintended And that their lives and plans he upended Exactly what that means, Tim is uncertain But from the words his little heart is hurtin’ He doesn’t know what he has done wrong But in the family he feels he doesn’t belong Father comes home and pushes Tim aside Never sees that it leaves his son teary-eyed Mother has no desire to give him a loving hug But instead she will roll her eyes and shrug Food, clothes and toys his parents will give Not the emotional support he needs to live Sam, the neighbor’s dog is his very best friend And very gladly has time with Tim to spend © 2012 Elton Camp |
