Paying to Get Your Book Published

By Elton Camp

To be published is every writer’s desire

But a paid publisher should you hire?

I’ve known a few who’ve gone that route

Who learned to their sorrow what it’s about

You can go for self-publishing or vanity

Both will be bad choices far as I can see

Neither will care if you book does well

It is left up to you to try to make it sell

If you get hundreds of copies of your book

Think how well stored away they’ll look

If with “on-demand” you decide to go

It likely will be but little better, though

Bookstores aren’t going to deal with you

And the money you spent, you will rue

A few will be bought by family & friend

But you will only look silly in the end

What everyone is secretly going to say

He couldn’t get it published without pay

To think not, there’s no need to believe

Folks will laugh at you up their sleeve
