Sports Scandals"What May Be Next

By Elton Camp

It’s time that sports gets cuts down to size

For it isn’t the important thing to emphasize

Schools should supply an academic education

And not to mindless sports make an abdication

Far into the wrong direction we have now veered

So coaches and players are almost as gods revered

Any coaches who abuse kids should be ferreted out

Of that fact there cannot be even the slightest doubt

The need to keep a balanced view must be stressed

Very few are the coaches who youngsters will molest

But here is an alarming development that we may see:

Liars who say, “When I was young, coach molested me.”

Are they seeing a chance to sue for money for their woe

Since, if not the coach, the university has plenty of dough?

Mendacity like that it’s now too likely folks will believe

Although the intent of the mature adult is only to deceive

Even if it’s proven that, with untruth, the charge is rife

The innocent coach will carry a blight the rest of his life

It’s concerning that to make a false charge of that type

The time to have it stick and then profit may well be ripe

Perhaps nothing of this sort will actually come to take place

But it’s a possibility that we must recognize and then face
