Huge Asteroid Approaching Earth

Huge Asteroid Approaching Earth

Should we be seeking shelter?

2005 YU55 Pays a Call

By Elton Camp

As asteroid from the depths of space is on its way

But we have nothing to fear, astronomers all say

It will come closer to the earth than its own moon

And it will make this too near approach very soon

Asteroids come closer to earth every single day

But are tiny & in the atmosphere easily burn away

If they enter the atmosphere during the night,

We may see them as a simple streak of light

But 2005 YU55 is a monster 1,300 feet wide

Be glad that into the atmosphere it won’t slide

Of course, some will wonder if it were on the way

If denial to prevent panic is what they all would say

In view of such huge rock coming as close as this

Makes some wonder if earth they will always miss

We have proof that asteroids have hit here before

And we can’t know if they will do that anymore

If, in the future, one on a collision path should appear

There’s no plan for one suddenly coming that near

If far in advance we know, to the rock we might go

Blow it up or deflect it so a hit won’t become so
