Gasp, I've Been Called for Jury Duty

I know exactly how to get out of it.

Gasp"I’ve Been Called for Jury Duty

By Elton Camp

It’s at the courthouse I am required to appear

“We are needing to seat a trial jury down here.”

I immediately try to think of every possible ruse

That to participate in jury duty just could excuse

Next week, it’s into the courtroom that I file

Where lawyers are picking a jury for the trial

To the defense lawyer’s question I reply

“I already think the accused is a guilty guy.”

“I have read everything about this case in detail.

And I am firmly convinced he should go to jail.”

“To tell the truth, I can see no good reason why

In this case the death penalty shouldn’t apply.”

“Because the one he swindled is kin to my wife,

The very least he should get is a sentence for life.”

“You can tell by seeing his beady eyes & brow

The he could be nothing but a criminal anyhow.”

“Of this man, a warning example should be made

So that other criminals like him will be afraid.”

“Accept me if you wish, but please take note

That guilty is the way that I’m going to vote.”

The lawyer’s words failed of my expectation

“To this juror, the defense has no reservation.”
