Clearance Nine Feet Six Inches

By Elton Camp

Bailey knew his truck was nine-eight tall

But the sign he saw he didn’t heed at all

“Clearance they will always underestimate.

I’m not going the long way and then be late.”

For the overpass, he didn’t even slow down

Until against the top of his truck it ground

With alarm, he tried to back up his truck

Only to find that it was very firmly stuck

When the cops arrived, he began to shout

“For such a threat, a better sign should be out.”

When he boss learned of the damage done,

“I knew you were too careless for that run.”

“You must stay here & the trucks help load.

For I can no longer trust you on the road.”

The big cut in pay that poor Bailey then got

Made him wish caution he had not forgot
