Good Reasons Not To Have a Dog

By Elton Camp

I’m no old grouch and I like dogs okay

But they fit in much better in another day

When I was a kid, nobody for a dog shopped

They were given free and you didn’t “adopt”

And you fed the dog whatever you were able

Most of the time, it was scraps from the table

If the dog got bad hurt or become seriously ill

Then it was perfectly acceptable your pet to kill

It was outside where the dog was expected to live

Space inside the house, nobody wanted to give

It never once entered any normal man’s head

To allow some filthy dog to sleep upon his bed

Now, although the idea almost drives me wild

A dog is given a status that is equal to a child

And only a balanced dog food do you dare feed

So that Spot will get exactly what he does need

People take out medical insurance on their pet

To help with those horrendous bills at the vet

Killing a hopeless dog some risk does entail

You might be charged, fined and sent to jail
