Shhhhh, Silence Please

By Elton Camp

For years at the library has worked Miss Clegg

“We must have quietness here,” she does beg

A good book or video she knows how to find

And she has helped many a student in a bind

Attempts at censorship she will not tolerate

And with judgmental people she’ll debate

When materials are late only a day or two

She’ll wink and say, “There’s no fine due.”

Another thing at which she is first rate

Is getting the rich to the library to donate

But whenever Miss Clegg comes around

Patrons know they mustn’t make a sound

That’s what she learned when she got her MLA

And her professor’s directions she must obey

But one day a handsome man walked in the door

And made a sound she had never heard before

For it was a loud wolf whistle that he did try

And said, “Hey, babe, you’ve caught my eye.”

And just a few months later, the two were wed

Demands for silence Miss Clegg no more said
