Alabama Driving Them Out

By Elton Camp

Most of Alabama’s new immigration law’s been upheld

Its admitted intent was that illegal aliens all be expelled

The governor was elected with a promise in his campaign

That illegal immigrants would not be allowed to remain

It is commencing with success as all can so plainly see

Undocumented folks are starting this state to wildly flee

Some families who have decided that they can’t stay

Pile into cars and practically give their goods away

Some business and homes actually look rather weird

With nobody much left because the law they feared

Hispanics who might shop fear they will be arrested

And then on their immigration status will be tested

Even the documented immigrants see it made clear

That they are resented & suspected by an angry leer

That they take American jobs has been the objection

But the things they did are not Americans’ selection

Already in the fields the fall crops are beginning to rot

Hispanics left and other willing workers we haven’t got

The governor and legislature are in a state of delight

Feeling that they are driving illegal aliens out of sight

Please know that no means are all Alabamians agreed

That of such a strict law there is any compelling need

Yet, the whole story this present write doesn’t tell

So check back and hear about the other side as well
