How Harry Became a Hobo

By Elton Camp

Harry had worked hard all of his life

All that it got him was misery & strife

Because no matter how hard he tries

Nothing is right in his family’s eyes

Whatever he said or did was always wrong

Poor Harry finally got tired of that old song

So he attached a little red sack to a pole

And away during the night old Harry stole

“I’ve lived with such criticism long enough

And I have finally got my fill of that stuff.”

“I have to believe nicer folks are somewhere

People who will show a little love and care.”

“And even if I find that’s actually not true

Being a hobo is a pretty good thing to do.”

So traveling on the road Harry did remain

Until one night he died underneath a train

With his last breath, he gave a deep sigh

“To chance being happy I’m glad I did try.”
