Police Close Children’s Lemonade Stand

By Elton Camp

In Midway, Georgia the cops got it right this time

They put a quick stop in the early stages of crime

And it wasn’t some robber who had got out of hand

They shut down children running a lemonade stand

Instead of the girls asking for money as a handout,

To make some of their own they earnestly set about

It was to the water park that the children wanted to go

So they went to work to help their parents make it so

They didn’t get a peddler’s permit at $50 per day

So the cops closed in on criminals that do that way

No doubt the citizens of Midway are extremely proud

That such dangerous lawbreakers in town aren’t allowed

The cops may claim that it was their sworn duty to act

And that the government its pound of flesh must extract

But this seems another example of authority gone wild

When it can’t even make a sensible exception for a child

Closing a child’s lemonade stand isn’t an isolated event

It makes me wonder where judgment & good sense went

Dangerous meth labs are in operation all over the place

To be hassling young children making money is a disgrace
