The Borrowed Toothbrush

By Elton Camp

“Dad, to clean your teeth I hope you’re in no rush,

Because I really need to borrow your toothbrush.”

“Son, another’s toothbrush you must never, ever use.

That’s totally filthy and something you must refuse.”

“Oh, no, Dad, to use it on myself isn’t what I mean.

I realize that would be gross and really bad unclean.”

The father, at those words, heaved a relieved sigh,

Knowing that such a thing his son wouldn’t try

“But, son, why do you want my toothbrush then?”

“Dad, I just need to clean the hamster cage again.”

Quirky, and a very slight satirical tone that lifts the spirit of even the most jaded of writers, well done, great read.
