The Jury Says Not GuiltyA Poem by Elton CampFolks, it's time to move on.The Jury Says Not Guilty By Elton Camp The little child had mysteriously disappeared An obvious suspect then immediately appeared When an investigator, to get information tries Most of his questions are answered with lies That the suspect had a motive was very clear And when the crime was committed was near Although nobody actually witnessed the wrong Circumstantial evidence was especially strong Then when the jury ultimately voted to acquit The public in general began to have a big fit At the decision, derisive laughter broke out That it was wrong, few had the slightest doubt But that isn’t the way the American justice works Without proof it must free even those it thinks jerks So at the jury the rest of us have no right to sneer For we weren’t there the complete testimony to hear © 2011 Elton Camp |
