Of Course I Love You

By Elton Camp

A young man wants so much to fornicate

But to be considered a s**t Sue does hate

“But, I haven’t been out with you before.

How do I know you’ll date me anymore?”

Joe gives her a nudge and a broad smile

“I’ve had my eye on you for quite a while.”

His comment is actually nothing but sleaze,

He’ll let Sue take it anyway she may please

It’s true Joe has had his eye on her all right

Because he figured she would do in a tight

It was Saturday night and he had got no date

He decided she’d be okay, though not great

Sue thought that Joe was a really cute boy

But didn’t want to face being only a toy

“Joe, if you love me, then it might be okay

But I am pretty sure that don’t feel that way.”

“Why of course I very much love you, Sue

That’s the very reason why I want this to do

It’s clear you don’t love me unless you agree

And it’s probably and old maid you’ll be.”

Next week, Joe bragged to his pals in the gym

Sue got the word and angrily confronted him

Joe said, “From my life you will disappear.

For I only told you what you wanted to hear.”

A searching rhyme scheme and diligent prose. It speaks volumes of the moraltiy of youth and all it's slender and confusion, well done.
