Who Can Identify This Man?

By Elton Camp

For a time almost everyone knew his name

Yet, ‘twas but fleeting proved to be his fame

As his victim reached out to shake his hand

It was then the violent fury suddenly began

Armed guards were standing near at his side

But the assassin his pistol managed to hide

To kill him outright, he did his level best

Shot him in the abdomen and in his chest

Eight guards then tackled him off of his feet

And the shooter with fists they began to beat

To lynch the man was the desire of the crowd

They all began to roar and to scream out loud

In only a month was his trial and the conviction

And the electric chair was the judge’s infliction

And when for him to die there came the time,

The man then said, “I am not sorry for my crime.”

And what he did in that infamous, fatal hour

Some thought a “madman” it brought into power

Want to play along with this little historical game?

If you do, in a comment, please tell us his name
