Tracing My Family Tree

By Elton Camp

With my family genealogy I became fascinated

And much wanted to see to whom I was related

I was sure that my ancestors were men of power

Family rumors say they were on the Mayflower

The previous two generations were easy enough

Because my father kept a record of such stuff

As I checked further back, it soon became clear

One ancestor has been hanged as a buccaneer

Another, I came to learn, his living had made

By dealing in the most shameful slave trade

About Grandpa Josh I found there’s no doubt

That we have relatives we didn’t know about

Then I learned that there was very good reason

To think another grandfather was shot for treason

And the Mayflower family story proved a bomb

It was through Ellis Island our ancestors had come

And when I traced them back to England’s shore

I decided it best if I studied genealogy no more

Because it might eventually become shown to me

That my oldest ancestor was a monkey in a tree

Cute, it is funny how our forefathers embellish stories, it is all these things tied into one that make a family interesting and enjoyable to read about. Good job, I enjoyed finding out your family is no more upstanding then mine, :) enjoyable read!

lol....I LOVE THIS.
Light and airy and charming.
My kinfolk dwells at the local Zoo,
I was the smart one who escaped.
