The Staycation

By Elton Camp

Horace used to take an elaborate vacation

The economy changed it to a staycation

He’s employed but the future he does fear

So decided to vacation at home this year

He won’t use the time & money it’d take

For him to pull his boat up to the lake

Although fishing he still thinks is cool

So decided he would try it in his pool

The maintenance contract had expired

And a new pool boy he hadn’t hired

It looked the worst he had ever seen

The water was murky with algae green

So Horace rigged up his pole and line

But he didn’t find the fishing to be fine

He kept on trying well into the night,

For his effort, he got a mosquito bite

If jobs keep moving to a foreign shore,

Of this type thing, we will see even more

Some Chinese child parents urge to eat

“The Americans are starving in the street”

Depressing! This is the direction we're going in.

Which is why, despite one of your other poems, I do occasionally complain about my work. I realize we should be grateful for our jobs, but the job market and wages are getting worse and worse!
