Pernicious Pig on PatrolA Poem by Elton CampI wish I didn't have to feel this way, but this is based on a lifetime of experience.Pernicious Pig on Patrol
By Elton Camp I want to hold law enforcement in high regard But a certain percentage of them make it hard On the police car it reads, “Serve and protect,” And this, the public has every right to expect At least where I live, there’s too many a time When police themselves are doing the crime It isn’t only the patrolman riding the street At higher levels, dishonorable we will meet Sadly, the word is now out that it isn’t far To where a trooper stole items from a car The newspaper tells us about a police chief Who has been arrested because he is a thief Police hiring practices we must begin to doubt An officer at his home is arrested in a shoot out True, these are exceptions, yet they aren’t rare Law enforcement folks to do crimes will dare There is the occasional cop who is a total a*s One who loves the public to abuse and harass He has been an ignorant loser all of his life Now he wants to bully others due to his strife Instead of seeking to arrest the serious perp, Behind a sign will hide this smirking jerk “Just a bit over the speed limit” he’ll glower Because to give a ticket now lies in his power He thinks that at last he is doing just so fine Because he has a shiny badge to hide behind Especially to minorities he feels so superior Though to about everyone he is really inferior To the vast majority of cops we say “Thanks,” Yet, act against those who are bad in your ranks A lesson that law enforcement has yet to learn Is that respect you can’t demand, but must earn
