Why He’s Just a Big Puppy

By Elton Camp

Big Brutus just loves to have his ears scratched

As one of “man’s best friends,” he’s unmatched

Having him as a pet is such a continual delight

We let him sleep with us on our bed every night

And when we take a trip, whether it’s near or far

We take him along on the bus, train, plane or car

It’s no problem and we haven’t found a hotel yet

That has refused to graciously accept our big pet

At friends’ houses, we insist Brutus be included

We will depart in an angry huff if he is excluded

It is true that he may break things once in a while

But a good host will say it’s okay and then smile

Being the owners of Brutus gives us such a thrill,

The only drawback:  you should see our Alpo bill

But excuse me just a moment as I catch that flea

It has jumped from Brutus to you and then to me
