The Umbrella

By Elton Camp

For a device that is so essential, it would be expected

That over the years it would’ve been finally perfected

But to get most umbrellas open often takes many tries

Punch the button as you will, but it doesn’t easily arise

And why do manufacturers produce umbrellas so small?

They keep rain off the top of your head, but that is all

When you finally get inside and into a place that’s dry

It seems not to want to stay closed no matter how you try

After only a few uses, there is little reason to have doubt

One or more sharp ribs will dangerously be sticking out

Although about the umbrella there is very much bad to say

You won’t fuss long because a wind gust will blow it away
