The Spirit of the TalibanA Poem by Elton CampIt's a slippery slope indeed. The Spirit of the Taliban
By Elton Camp When others their moral standards try to impose, Much about themselves such bigotry does disclose The Taliban found Buddha statues in poor taste And used explosives to lay works of art to waste If in your own discretion you feel you can decide A person’s words, expressions or ideas to chide On creativity it’s certain to have a chilling effect Such censorship much excellent work has wrecked Arrogance even wants Mark Twain’s books to edit They were offended at his words when they read it Things like this are the proverbial “slippery slope” To such foolishness all writers should say, “Nope.” © 2011 Elton Camp |
