On Buying a Cheap Little Car

By Elton Camp

Is this really a disgrace

Or a reality all must face?

Former days may see no more

Never to be like it was before

No car was too long or wide

Lumbering SUVs we tried

It had all the latest features

For us pampered creatures

We saw just no reason why

The SUVs were unwise to buy

To allay any financial fears

We financed over more years

It didn’t bother us a bit to see

The behemoths got ten m.p.g.

But our jaws in disgust did drop

At the time they spent in shop

It made our economy a wreck

And put us in slavery to OPEC

At the mercy of  rich Arab dudes

Who could raise the cost of crude

Now a Kia is all that I can afford

No more of that going overboard

I’ve got to get out where it’s clear

To learn how to shift manual gear
