An Alabama Snowfall

By Elton Camp

Saturday morning we woke to find it so

The ground all covered in wondrous snow

It was a time to give it a welcoming shout

Weekend--none of us were forced to get out

Every branch and even tiny twig all outlined

Against the gray sky are so clearly defined

Clumps of snow accumulated on the evergreen

A scene in Alabama that is very seldom seen

Snowflakes were drifting lazily to the ground

White lumps showed where shrubs were found

The songbirds, though, were far from amused

As they flittered about seeking food and confused

Adding to the dream was a silence in the air

Snow-covered road and nobody passing there

The world’s woes were, for a moment, at bay

Snow, even if for a moment, made it that way
