The Amazing Weather Prophet

By Elton Camp

A wise old Indian lived near town

To consult him, people came around

Since he had mastery of so much lore

The weather the chief could tell before

Whether it would come to rain or snow

The chief would almost always know

If there would be either hail or wind

The man told about when it’d begin

He knew where the temperature goes

And could predict both highs and lows

And if cold weather was on the way

The chief usually knew to the very day

Also, it should come not as a surprise

He told when the sun would set and rise

The Indian grew to be a man of great fame

Power as a weather prophet all did acclaim

Occasionally, he would not get it just right

At times, he seemed to lack second sight

Always when people came to ask his advice

Chief was cordial and answered very nice

One day, when asked, it was different though

The Indian simply said to them, “Me not know.”

“But chief how can that possibly come to be?

Weather your have always been able to see.”

The weather prophet his head slowly shook

While people stared with an expectant look

The Indian’s reply nearly made them choke

He smiled at them and said, “Radio broke.”
