The Housekeeper Comes Today

By Elton Camp

It’s Tuesday when I hear my wife say,

“Got to hurry. Housekeeper comes today.”

She takes pail and mops the kitchen floor

I have seen her do it so many times before

And then no matter what I have to say

She grabs a rag and wipes dust away

“I’ve got to run the vacuum real quick.

Just a little brush-up should do the trick.”

No matter what I may have said,

She very neatly makes up the bed

Then, earlier than any other day,

She put the breakfast dishes away

Wash the car enroute to the clean-up place?

For me to do that would be a silly disgrace

That’s what I am paying the shop to do

It should be just the same in the house too

And I hope you see just what I mean

Housekeeper’s not needed if it’s clean

Her reasoning’s sense I just cannot see

Dirty is exactly how the house should be
