Resumes Can Spell DoomA Poem by Elton CampMake a bad one and you've had it.Resumés Can Spell Doom By Elton Camp When seeking work, it’s a pity To irk the search committee. The wrong things we do, And the results we rue. It is always much better To include a cover letter. If the font is too small, It may not be read at all. Of carelessness it does tell When words we misspell. Mistakes before you are hired, Your services won’t be required. Faith in the spell checker Can be a document wrecker. “Their” I wrote in my haste. With “there” it won’t replace. If subject and verb don’t agree, A dunce the committee will see. A resumé on paper that’s blue Gives the wrong impression, too. Some words don’t mean a thing Rejection is what they will bring. “A self-starter well describes me” The words are useless as can be. “I am a people person” Will prospects worsen. Your e-mail address must be tame. [email protected] don’t name. To say, “Client service,” is okay Unless McDonald’s was the way. Reasonable employers certainly hate Applicant experience levels to inflate. In a resumé some matters are hated Because they are not job related. Number of children they do not need Nor either your own religion or creed. Also fonts of various size Are too hard on the eyes. Don’t include your website If it should stay out of sight. If you take this good advice, And do your resumé up nice, You may then become a friend. Days of unemployment will end.
