Boycott BP?

By Elton Camp

“I just don’t see how you can buy gas at BP.

I wouldn’t take it from them if it were free.”

I’ve heard several people make statements of this type

But with the owner of a local station I have no gripe.

BP should pay for the damage done in the Gulf,

But without gas sales, they won’t have enough.

How can they pay if they go broke?

That’s what a boycott could provoke.

BP stations that I see are often better than most

That they are clean and attractive they can boast,

And if they should be forced to close down

Several employees will no longer be around.

Unemployment is quite bad enough

Without adding to it with such stuff.

A boycott is a very foolish notion

Based on an unreasonable emotion.

Bad decisions were made by people at the top,

But at the local level, all blame needs to stop.

So when I need gas, I see no reason why

From a BP station I should refuse to buy.
