Breathing deeply

Breathing deeply

A Poem by Elsi
"

This poem is deep and political that is based on a perspective of a 15 year old boy.

"

It is sunrise time on a glooming day

didn't know where to go or hide

everything seems to darken and turn to gray

its all in my head I say

Im walking on a street in Zaire

watching children running around

they're in motion, in motion to nowhere

Breathing deeply I turned around to see

where a screaming sound came to free

Breathing deeply I felt the pain in my throat

the sorrow of a women's grieving to afloat

Breathing deeply I heard a shot from afar

that's when I realized I was at a war

Breathing deeply I felt wetness all over me

not the rain from the sky but the one internally

Breathing deeply I felt heavy inside and outside

I was ready to move but not to give my life for a sacrifice

Breathing deeply for once more and more

all I could think of was how to get out alive

Breathing deeply for the last time I say

wanting to know how and when I got there

Breathing deeply as a 15 year old

shaved-headed, tall, and looking quite like a stud

Breathing deeply as I fantasize about my image

again, not aware of what I am seeing or hear

Breathing deeply I felt the heaviness

I smelt the smoke that covered the streets

Breathing deeply looking at my hand

remembering what to grab and hold

Breathing deeply in my green jacket

I set myself in motion and wore on my hat

Breathing deeply as a young lad soldier

finally knowing where I was, I became like the other

I am a soldier fighting for my country

Breathing deeply for the last time as a boy

fighting like a man to put an end to a war!!!
