Beneath the Garden of Us

Beneath the Garden of Us

A Poem by Nessa
"

''Beneath the Garden of Us'' explores the bittersweet beauty of love lost, where the garden that once symbolized a shared life now holds the memory of a departed lover.

"

Beneath the Garden of Us

It began in the garden, where time forgot to move,
A sanctuary built in the silence of two hearts that could not lose.
The earth held us softly, in its tender, fragile way,
Where every bloom whispered promises we made that day.

Your laughter was sunlight, soft and warm,
Chasing the darkness, keeping me safe from harm.
Every petal, every root, a story we wrote,
A love that we thought would never be remote.

But gardens, like love, cannot stand forever still,
They bend to the winds, and bow to time’s will.
We stepped beyond, hearts fragile yet bold,
Not knowing the price that love would one day hold.

Then the wind whispered your name, and you were gone,
Leaving only shadows, like the fading of dawn.
I searched the sky, the flowers, the stars,
But found only silence where your love once was.

Now beneath the oak, where wildflowers weep,
I lay my heart, beside yours, buried deep.
The roots curl around, as though they still remember,
And I hold on to you, like a flame in the coldest of December.

I sit alone, where echoes are all that remain,
A melody that haunts me, laced with pain.
Every fallen leaf, every trembling petal,
Is a piece of you that time cannot settle.

Though I walk through the garden, you’re gone, yet near,
In the rustling leaves, in each quiet tear.
One day, I’ll return to where the earth calls my name,
And you’ll be waiting where the garden remains.

For the garden is more than flowers and trees-"
It is where we loved, and where love never leaves.
And as the wind whispers through the endless sky,
I’ll know you’re still here, in the place where we said goodbye.

i absolutely adore the Garden series and i might re-read from the first one again. this was heart-breaking, i nearly teared up. inside, i weep for this persona. the line: 'I lay my heart, beside yours, buried deep' was fantastic. it stood out because it was a bit shorter than the line that preceded it, which gives a weighty impact when reading. like a sharp pain in the chest.
it is incredibly amazing what you did with this. turn your pain into poetry. the one minute it took to read it moved me in a way i was not ready for. and i hope that somehow that helps you heal your aching. one of the best poems i read on this site.
