A Love That Mirrors

A Love That Mirrors

A Poem by Elly
"

A heartfelt poem about the search for true love, its essence, and the reflection of the love we seek in the love we give.

"

"You attract what you reflect,"* they say,

Yet love feels distant, so far away.

Like a song whose melody I can't hear,

A dream that fades yet feels so near.

I long for hands to hold my own,

For eyes to see me, tears and all shown.

For hugs that warm, kisses so pure,

A bond so deep, unshaken, secure.

To be kissed as time stands still,

To be held so close, through cold or thrill.

But is this love, or just a play?

For many do this yet love fades away.

Love is staying through the storms,

Mending hearts, keeping warm.

It's seeing my needs before I speak,

Still feeling sparks week after week.

Love is peace, love is growth,

A steady bond, a lasting oath.

But how do we love, and who do we choose?

Is it the likes we gain, the texts we use?

Is it the Neighbour with a kind hello,

The boy in class, or a soul we don’t know.

Love is more than butterflies,

More than smiles or fleeting highs.

It’s understanding, its steady care,

Its acceptance is growing everywhere.

I’ll wait, though it feels so far,

For love that shines like a guiding star.

Though doubts will rise, I’ll stand my ground,

For true love’s worth is always found.

So, I’ll fight, I’ll fail, I’ll learn, I’ll grow,

Because settling for less? I’ll never go.

Love is patient, love will stay,

And I’ll find my love, someday, some way.

So, if true love is what you wish to find,

Be the version of love you hold in mind.

For life’s a mirror, reflecting clear,

What you project will soon appear.

Though it may feel slow, he’ll start to show,

Drawn to the light within you that glows.

The same can be said for guys: "though it may feel slow, [she'll] start to show" lol. Kinda feeling the slow part. Not having the most fun there, but hanging on. This poem has that hope we all need in life and love. Keep going strong and we will prevail. I was hoping for more contrast regarding the what we reflect we shall attract, as that's a brilliant message and, I dare say, the very crux of this poem. Love may feel so far, but what else do they say about reflecting to attract that also feels slow in manifesting before we, as readers, get to that finale of "here's my little bit of advice, folks" kind of coda? Something to think about. Also, there seems to be an issue with some it's vs its in Stanza 7, not sure whether at least one of them is used correctly. Awesome overall, though! Well done!
