Strange Feelings
A Poem by Elly
A poem that explores the paradox of longing and fear, where desire becomes both a flame and a trap, consuming the heart with its duality.
Have you ever feared what you desire, Felt a craving that lights a fire? A longing so deep, it drives me mad, Binding my heart, yet making it sad. These feelings enslave me, hold me tight, They steal my peace and haunt my nights. Adrenaline courses, you're in control, You've taken my breath, was that your goal? I can’t exist without your air, You consume me; it’s beyond compare. Through the crowd, I look and pray, For a bond, a smile to light my day. But it hurts, for you’re a ball of thread, Each step with you leaves trails I dread. You pull me close, then trap me still, It’s a battle of heart, a war of will. Like a puppet, you control my hand, Yet somehow, I manage to stand. I hate this hold, this burning need, A poison that heals, a wound that bleeds. You kill me softly, then make me live, You take my all, yet hope you give. You’re a storm I could not foresee, A sickness I crave, yet long to flee. So innocent, yet danger in disguise, You hold the power with those gentle eyes. You’re my fear and my deepest desire, A burning flame, a dooming fire. 22nd/11/2024

My only concern is that the expression is "flee from" - the from is kind of necessary, however, it looks and sounds so good there, I think poetic licence would allow for it. But this otherwise is another banger! hoooooly mole! Light that fire and let it burn as it's a flame of wonder! Well done!
