Risky Game
A Poem by Elly
Risky Game delves into the thrill and fear of taking risks, questioning whether we can enjoy danger without losing ourselves.
Let’s play a daring game" Dance on the edge they told us to fear, Close enough to taste the thrill of falling, But never too far for dread to take hold. Let’s play for the fun of it, Share whispers not meant to escape, Keep it light"just enough to ignite, But never too deep to make us stay. Let’s play, just for a moment, Step beyond the bounds we know, Leave behind the weight of titles, And shed the burdens we bear. Let’s make this our secret, yours and mine" A thrill veiled in shadow, Ours alone to guard. Can you hold it tightly in your heart, Or will the urge to spill it prove too strong? Something fleeting, something wild" Can we tread this path And return unscathed? Can we become this untamed version Without losing ourselves? Is this a daring game, Or the first step toward our fall? No strings, no ties"could it be? Can we play and walk away whole? Pretend to be someone else, Then slide back into who we were? For one night, or two, or maybe three, Let’s embrace what’s untethered and free. But can we retrace our steps with ease, Or is this daring game our undoing?

What do you think about the tension between seeking thrills and the fear of what might follow? Can we really enjoy risk without it changing us? Do you believe it’s possible to walk away from a daring game unscathed?

I’ve never tried Free Verse before, it's my first time hearing about it. What is it? I’m now intrigued and would love to learn more.

It's a freer kind of poetry that doesn't strictly employ rhymes. Your rhymes here are placed exactly where they need to be, but not every quatrain is made of strict couplets. That's Free Verse. Your musicality is neither strict enough to be Blank Verse (only the rhythm is strict - no rhymes at all). So you are capable of writing with only the breath as your guide, and here is the prime example of how brilliant you can be if you loosen up a bit. Rhyme where you want rather than NEED to rhyme every couple of lines. Of course, if a poem wants to be in couplets, it will be in couplets, but my point is, you don't need to force it to be (and frankly shouldn't force it). You can be just as brilliant if you just let the poem run its course. Prime example right here!! I'm still reeling from having read this.
