The Dreamer

The Dreamer

A Poem by Ellusen
"

"

I had hoped that once mature,

I would seek more than these things:

The glittered eyes of a beautiful face

and all-consuming flings.

The curves of a heated body,

limbs fumbling with desire.

Heartfelt conversations

to lift my heart so much higher.

Instantaneous connections,

with souls that dance this tune.

Affairs with long-haired lovers,

that consume like a typhoon.

But age has not matured me,

and knowingly, I seek:

all the things that can't be so,

for a dreamer's life is bleak!

A shell cannot be cracked

with a gaze intent and strong.

A heart cannot be opened

by a breathless, whimpered song.

For people do not live

with their bodies, anymore.

Their minds are always focused

on a distant, harsher shore.

It crackles in the distance,

beneath a crashing storm

that smites all who approach it

with no intent to conform.

Give me all your money,

I'll give you my house.

Grab you some hobbies

and a well-meaning spouse.

'Cause life for you now,

is all about "things".

Keep emotions deep inside of you

and you'll look like happy kings.

Ignore the sound of the fleeting birds,

they don't like it enough to stay.

But you'll hang around a while, won't you?

So the Gods can watch and play.

While you run for expectations

that you didn't want to fill

and nature goes unnoticed

because you're running yourself ill.

The person who looked at you once

like the greatest thing on earth

has memorised your face now

and your presence lost its worth.

When all you do is survive,

what do you give when you're surviving?

There's nothing in you left,

nothing strong and real and thriving.

So tell me once more,

why I shouldn't sit and dream

of a life filled with the realness

of a person: truth supreme.

Everything I have ever wished to say has been captured by your mind. I feel as though instead of speaking I could just read your writings. Once again, incredible work Ellusen, I'm an adoring reader kinda jealous of your mind.

Goodness, thank you. I'm glad that sharing my writing has introduced me to some kindred spirits :)
Haha - i can't believe that my earbuds are filled with 'What a day for a daydream...' - the song by Loving Spoonful while I read this one entitled 'The Dreamer'.
A universal tickle if ever there was one!

I loved this -
"A shell cannot be cracked
with a gaze intent and strong.
A heart cannot be opened
by a breathless, whimpered song." - no indeed, faint heart never won fair lady. It takes a fiery committed and always interested (in you) kind of heart. Those that flit are not welcome. Come as you are Kurt Cobain said but stay - I think this poem is saying and stay for the right reasons - nothing materialistic.

Strong, potent and very enjoyable write Ellusen.
