From Bullied Teen to Fashion Queen

From Bullied Teen to Fashion Queen

A Story by Ellie
"

A young gay teenager wants to become a fashion designer, having been bullied at school for it, will this be his escape?

"

I ran a hand through my gelled brunette hair, another day of torment… another day of being bullied, just because I like fashion not sports. I looked up at the large building in front of my and took in a deep breath, letting it out as a sigh before my legs carried me inside, without my consent.  I looked around as I walked to my locker, trying to keep a low profile, but I never could, they always found me. Hearing footsteps behind me, I clutched the portfolio in my hand tightly. I needed this, I needed to get it safely to the company, I had found an article for a company wanting a designer, so I had spent the last three nights sketching out all my ideas on manikins. I heard the footsteps get closer, before a hand was on my shoulder and I was pulled around, I let out a small whimper as I squeezed my eyes shut and my body clenched as I waited for the impact, but it never came, my eyes slowly fluttered open and I looked up to see the jocks eying my portfolio.

“Whatcha got there?” one asked, a smirk on their lips.
“It’s nothing” I shot as I tried my hardest to hide it from their sight, but it was an A1 portfolio and my small frame couldn’t cover it all. I ran a hand through my hair and my grip on the black portfolio slipped slightly, making me scramble to get it all back together. The jocks smirked as the book dropped and one of them snatched it out of my arms and began to flick through it.
“What the hell is this?” he asked as he looked up at me and smirked more.
“I have an interview” I replied bluntly as I ran a hand through my hair and moved forward, my arms out to get the book back, but he moved backwards away from me, making me frown more.
“Give it back Jacob” I hissed but the male simply shook his head. The other jocks moved in front of him, pushing me back as I fought to get to the portfolio.
“Hey… I need that” I whined but they simply shook their heads and chuckled as they went through the pages, looking over each other’s shoulders and rolling their eyes.
“No one will like these” Derek said, his voice blunt and dull, but it still cut like a knife, I had always been put down, no one had every cared about me, but this was my one passion, fashion, I had never shown anyone this before, and the first people that saw it? Cut me down.
“Please… just give it back” I said, my voice breaking slightly as I spoke, Andy looked over at me and shook his head.
“Give it back to him guys… let the baby have his bottle” his voice was dripping with sarcasm. I looked up before quickly grabbing the portfolio off them, slamming my locker door shut and walking as fast as I could away from them.
“Hey… Sebastian… wait up” a voice called behind me. Looking to my left I saw Alexia was behind me.
“Hey” I said my voice sad and a little distance.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t help… I got there too late… someone told me what they did” she blurted in a hurry but I shook my head.
“It wasn’t your fault” I replied, before looking up and seeing her eyes on the folder, but I hugged it close to my chest again and shook my head, telling her I wasn’t going to let her see it.
“Please Sebby” she pouted and I shook my head again.
“Please~” she sang as she looked up at me, fluttering her eye lashes at me and I finally sighed and gave in but I eyed her quickly.
“I want to do it somewhere private… I don’t want to be shot down and embarrassed again” I told her and she nodded before we walked to the courtyard, sitting down I passed her the book and she began to look through it, smiling to herself. I just watched her in silence as I ran a nervous had through my hair. When she finished she closed the book and remained silent for a few more minutes.
“Well?” I asked nervously.
“I love them” she squealed and through her arms around my neck making me fall sideways but smile a little.
“I’m glad someone likes them… but I just hope the company do” I sighed as I looked up, worry in my face.

Time Skip

I let out a shaky breath as I stood in front of the large glass building. Gulping I walked in silently, getting odd looks from the tall, slim women that were working there, they were all tall, slim, blond and perky. I sighed again and walked up to the main desk.
“Hello?” An arrogant looking woman asked.
“Hey… My name is Sebastian Knight and I’m here to see Silvia” I replied, my voice smooth and calm, though inside I was screaming and shouting, desperate to get out of there.
“Miss Channing will be ready to see you soon” she replied, her voice still arrogant. I nodded and moved to the waiting room, sitting down on one of their fancy chairs and waited to be seen.

After what seemed like years of fidgeting a woman came down, dressed in a black dress with gold assets. I looked up smiling a little and she looked from the receptionist to me.
“Sebastian?” she asked and I nodded.
“That’s me ma’am” I replied softly as I stood and followed her back up the stairs and into her office. I looked around as I walked in; it was white and neat, with pictures of models with the company’s clothes on and a few of the sketches hanging on the walls. I was snapped out of my daze when my name was called.
“Sorry Ma’am… this place is amazing” I whispered as I walked over to her and she gave a small, forced smile.
“Let’s see what you have” she said and I nodded, sitting opposite her and passing her the portfolio, she took it and slipped her glasses off her head before she began to look over them all, her face remaining emotionless.

I began to move around a little on my seat, getting more and more uncomfortable as I waited for her verdict, after the jocks opinion, I was a little shaken up and also I was also losing confidence in my work, every second that went by, felt like an hour of waiting. She finally finished and gently closed the folder before she looked up at me, slipping her glasses back up onto her head and I looked up at her shyly.
“what did you think?” I asked her quietly as I tilted my head to the side.
“They are all very creative…” she started before pausing.
Very creative… is that good? Bad? In the middle? Am I hired? Does she hate them and she’s just being polite? My conscience screamed as I waited for her to continue.

“You’re hired” she said and I beamed.
“Really?” I asked in shock and she nodded, tears of happiness welled in my eyes as I looked up at her.
“Thank you… thank you so much… you don’t know how much this means to me” I said, tears sliding down my cheeks.
“You’re ideas are amazing” she replied, a small smile on her lips as she looked over at me before standing and shaking her head.
“Come here” she giggled before she gently pulled me into a hug; I hugged back and smiled as more tear slipped down my cheeks. This was it, I’m going up in the world.
