Not

Not

A Poem by Ellen Mary

See it not

I don't, and am certain of that. making it so everyday and every night

Avoiding any possible confrontations, removing all paths that may lead me to you

It burns my eyes, and my heart still. Though it has staggered from throbs of pain, it eventually dulls to some sort of numbness and indifference. But still, see it not.

Burnt until blind of your sight.

Hear it not

Shut the mouths of those who slip the vile words of ghosts passed. It pierces the peaceful silence, no more bearable than a set of nails on a chalkboard, or a woman screaming in the night.

Your voice, and your words, and words of your words, shall fall upon deaf ears.

Speak it, definitely not

Your name is the x in my vocabulary. The unsaid, and the dead. The memories fade faster and faster with every reference passed by, flowing down the river of forgotten thoughts.

My mouth has no tongue to verbalize a past irrelevant.

And thus, feel it not

Feel everything except for this

Feel the sunshine on the back of my neck and on my reddening cheeks. feel the laughter bursting from me and the happy tears

The eye wont forget the sights which have burned it, for the next time it squeezes tight at the onset

And the ears wont forget the noises which pain it, for the next time the hands will shelter it

The mouth wont forget the lips which have lied, for the ears will recognize the tongue which utters the meaningless

And the heart wont forget the blade which has cut it, for its resilience will dull the next

The mind, the body, and the soul

regrets not the biggest mistakes it has made

but only learns from them.
