Out on the Road Again

Out on the Road Again

A Poem by Ellen Mary
"

Its genuine

"

We’re all on our own path
To find happiness

Converging and crossing
Maybe talking sometimes
And staying for a while in the presence of others

We enjoy the company
For a long time
Or for just a little
And we get anxious
Because the roads undiscovered beckon for our eager footsteps

Its hard to leave them behind
But we push and we pull
One wants to go
And one wants to stay
To see the flowers grow
Hand in hand
A visit becomes rotten after a while,
And we yearn to find something fresh and new

Every now and then
We turn our heads
To see if our friends are still rustling in the bushes
Hoping, yearning and
yet dreading the sight of them
Following you, maybe to say, 'lets take a walk together'
One last time
To catch up or to say goodbye
Or to sew up old wounds

Some of us walk together
In sight of eachother
But in different directions
Our eye can see as far as it wants
And it becomes blind to what has pained it...
But just until it is ready to accept the most tender of sights

A path walked alone
Can be unbearable at times
But of course, we learn to hear the quiet
And love the sound of our own thoughts
Love the feeling of our own decisions
Everytime we stop to take a drink, we might learn to love our reflection more and more
We learn to appreciate our companions on the road behind us and ahead of us and beside us

Some lovers may join us
Many times lovers will leave us
Leave us torn and forlorn
Hopeless and yearning for more
They leave us with scars
They leave us with sadness and anger. With tears to fill the oceans
They leave us with questions and rants of rage
The most painful choices are sometimes the best ones

But they leave us with hope and with our dignity
And we learn slowly and we find clarity
And with knowledge
At these times, when we seem to bleed to no end
In the unyielding darkness
We find the best in ourselves
The strength in ourselves
And the determination and will power

These lost lovers, they leave us with graciousness in our hearts
To accept the choices they made together
And when all rage fades away, we say ‘baby, it’s okay’
Because we had to go on our own paths
Remove ourselves from the past
Living and learning
We say; darling, ‘ill always have a soft spot for you, for your lips, for your kisses’
I will always smile at our silly fights and our silly memories. At the good times.
Theres good in everything
Even if it feels terrible inside.
Eventually the anger subsides, and that glow, it shines brighter again. And we fill ourselves with love.
At the end of the day, the love is all that I will accept
Only to reject the anger and reject hate
For it is my worst enemy
All I have and all I want is love in my heart
I will pour all that I have
Even if it only fills the glass halfway

And love in my heart is all I have
Love will lead me to happiness
To give and to share unconditionally

There is always a new path to discover, the path that we continue on
Because we are always looking for happiness. We find new friends, new foes, new laughter and new woes

Some friends will stay
until our dying days
And some friends will blow away with the wind

Some will take their last breaths
As we cry for them to stay
and some will always be there
as we share our last days

There is aa glow in our hearts
It dims
And brightens
But there is a glow in our heart always
We feed it with love and with laughter
We feed it with hugs and with kisses
We feed it with songs and with our dreams discovered
We feed it with work and with play and with pain, and with its gain

Permanence does not exist on these paths
The wind is always blowing
And it always rains
Washing away our footprints
And washing away our names
